Native Fish Report Card

Post by Boonanza » Fri Oct 05, 2018 7:01 pm

Here is an excellent native fish resource launched just today that details the results of native fish surveys in a variety of waterways in Victoria using a number of different techniques.
Average sizes, how many fish per kilometer, average weight, whether they're naturally recruiting etc...

Very interesting! Fisheries have been doing similar with trout streams for a few years. Good to see the natives are getting some attention. This will be handy to use if planning a fishing trip as well as for fisheries to see which rivers may need a hand! The only downside if one could call it that is that it may lead to more pressure being placed on the rivers that rated well...which then may affect the rivers for the worse. It is good that fisheries help out the anglers that do the right thing. Guess there is not much they can do about the moron element!
