Help with planning a 1-2 week fishing trip from Melbourne

Post by Keepitreel » Thu Aug 02, 2018 6:38 pm

Hey guys,

3 mates and I are looking to take between 1-2 weeks off work later in December for a fishing trip. We are planning on hiring a RV/Motor home and taking the tinny to target fresh water fish. Mainly wanting to target cod however open to any ideas really. We are leaving from Northern Suburbs, Melbourne and happy to make any amount of stops a long the way.

Any suggestions for stops along the way - first time trip

Google maps says its a 26 hour drive to Prosepine Qld go Barra fishing at Peter Faust Dam maybe stop on the way for a day or two fishing some impoundments stocked with Bass. Be an easy drive with 3 mates sharing the drivers duty.

Depending on how far you want to go these are some of the places I would be looking at
Mulwala for a super close option.
Windamere (more for the pig yellas than cod)
Copeton (big cod but a bit of a grind in the lake but I believe the rivers are really good in the area)
or go for the big trip up to QLD and fish the barra impoundments (and maybe hit a couple for bass on the way) as RB suggested

You could fish cod and Barra dams in new and qld.

If you happy to drive you could fish the snowy mountains lakes then head to qld.

If you have a few drivers it's easy to share the driving

Would be a great addition to the trip BM be great to have a week or two in all the regions. That copeton dam looks pretty good for big cod.
