good read i grew up next to gunbower and fished kow swamp and the murray mostly. We had a 20 inch irrigation pipe that sucked in one cod that was 110 lbs and another around 80lb. We decided to put a cage over the inlet back in early 90's to prevent further fish deaths

No worries. It blew me away how many places back then had cod and other good native populations but which now are lucky to hold water let alone fish.

Great to see "the old measurements". I can picture it's size
If somebody is 170cm tall, I have no idea

Will's book is "True Tales of the Trout Cod" and is a truly unique account of fishing in South-Eastern Australia in the early days. It is a great read and at the same time makes one sad as to what has happened to most of our native fisheries and our rivers and streams over the last 100 years. Just google the title and you will find it on the internet.

So what did it mean by a 2lb "bream". Is that a boney bream, silver perch or maybe a yellow belly?

Am sure Trudogz will give you better account but in many places Macquarie Perch were commonly called "bream".
