As trout are an introduced species should there be no closed season or bag limits? Should they be declared noxious not to be returned live?

Seems fair enough to me. What's good for carp should be good for all ferals.

Anyway, trout and redfin are too good to eat, so it would make sense to keep them.

Definitely! I find it so insanely ridiculous that an exotic species is deliberately released into the environment - especially two species that are known to have serious impacts on native fauna. And before anyone asks for 'proof', here are just a few of the many peer-reviewed studies demonstrating the deleterious impact trout can have on natives:

Look at trout stocking in Albert Park Lake for example.
Money gets pumped into it , fish are released.
One hot week in summer , majority of them die. Really do feel bad for the fish!

The Natives that are released there do really really well.

How many of those fingerling golden perch/estuary perch died a premature death in the jaws of a rainbow ? No way to know!


Sometimes, its like the fish management planning is done by a toddler wanting to put everything in his aquarium not realizing that his oscars are gonna eat his guppies. :down:

I would be a happy man if they stopped trout stocking tomorrow and instead focussed the dollars on native stockings. I enjoy catching trout but I don't think put and take fisheries have a great ROI

What staggers me is the trout fishos that treat them like an endangered species and believe they should be released etc etc. check out crazy trout hunters on Facebook.

They want anglers to increase by 1 million so really that means they need fish that people can recognise and readily eat. What better then the universal "trout" craze. Just like atlantic salmon it's had a surge in popularity.

If carp tasted great and didn't stink they would he stocking them. I consider them a greater fighting fish then most trout.

Hypothectically if Trout were not stocked and classed as noxious, populations declined, would larger natives take there place? Or more Blackfish and Galaxis? Ive always wondered what was in those smaller creeks pre introduced species.
