Desperate - Aussie Bass in Gippsland rivers

Post by Sebb » Mon Jun 13, 2016 3:38 pm

Hi all,

I want to start targetting Aussie Bass in the coming spring/summer on lure/fly.
I have no clue whatsoever.

Other than Blue Rock Lake.
Where would be good Gippsland rivers to start with?
I dont expect for anyone to tell their fishing spot.
But a town name / river name would be much appreciated. And i will hunt them myself.

Oh also, lure selection and preffered time of day woukd be great too.

Its in the bucket list and i'll be happy just to get one for catch and release (size doesnt matter).
Thanks in advance.

the fisheries website is a good place to start. look at where they have stocked bass, and most of the waterways in the area should hold wild fish too. The avon is one that comes to mind. I've been told that they are present in almost any river east of the prom.

i've only caught two bass, having just started the chase this summer past but both were on a cicada pattern lure.

99% of the fish i've caught outta there have been perch. the other 1% has been bream but i don't see why there wouldn't be bass in the mix somewhere. However i defer to your experience :notworthy:

I just remember a post about the Tarwin and thought they were Bass, the Tarwin is a long river so divulging this information is harmless as I didn't give any particular spot on the river. It's like saying head down to the Tambo if you want bream.

The Tarwin would definitely hold bass, and you can tangle with them in the estuary, but more likely upstream. Same goes for all the East Gippsland rivers (e.g. the Avon, Tambo, Snowy, etc). There are lots of bass in the Snowy around Orbost, for instance.
