Hot N/E cod session

Post by davek » Mon Dec 25, 2017 6:56 am

3 quick cod in a session with truedogz was the start of a good night,65cm on a spinnerbait, a 56cm& 53cm on cheese before dark. Then we walked a section of the river with surface lures. I ended up with 4 cod and a trout cod for the night between mid 30s and high 40s in length. There wee a few fish lucky that I wasn't so responsive also and they didn't hook up. Truedogz managed 5 off the top with the better in the high 50s range but I'll leave it to him to tell you about that. A great night out (although a little sore this morning) and thanks again to truedogz for the session. some of the pics aren't the best and no I don't smile but hey, I never do,

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

I'm not in any of the pics cause Dave is more photogenic! And don't lie, I saw you smiling last night! ;-)

I've got to learn to drive Dave's camera a bit better .

The cod were going nuts last night. Dave, I did a recount this morning, I think we landed 14 cod. You got 8 all up, 1 on the spinner bait (nice fish), 2 on your rotten cheese, the rest on lures but I don't remember how many you got on the diver before you went over to the surface lures. I got one on the stumpy with all the rest off the top. Between us I think we got 9 on surface lures, each getting a 50 cm plus fish on the surface.

I had a few boofs I missed early in the twilight. After dark they really came on. In this backwater I must have got boofed 6 or 8 casts before this bloke got fed up and really had a go:

Here is another which was a typical size for the night:

I'd hate to think how many times between the two of us we got boofed last night, but it was in the dozens. Then Dave pulls out a ripper on his last cast :notworthy: .

Great night out.
