Eildon: 20/8/17

Post by willow17 » Mon Aug 21, 2017 1:59 pm

Had plans to head up to Eildon Friday night having not been up there since March i was pretty keen to get some lines in however, ended up being Saturday afternoon by the time we got up due to a few things coming up.

The main target was a trout having not caught one at Eildon yet and i started with a troll of a Tassie devil and Duel Clutch as we moved to our spot for the weekend. Being on my girlfriends houseboat makes trolling less then ideal but better than nothing.

After a unsuccessful troll on route to our spot and securing the boat it was a change of plans with the lures off and hooks on. I had two rods set up both with worms, one set under a float and another just off the bottom. After 4 hours and not a single touch the whole time i decided that it was time to change my approach.

I decided to put my cod setup out and thought a combination of worm and cheese should get me something, at the least a carp. After another 2-3 hours Saturday night without a touch, freezing fingers and my girlfriend saying maybe fishing isn't for me i called it a night.

Feeling a bit discouraged and having the chance of a sleep in for the first time in a few weeks i decided to wake up at 9:30am, the first time up there i haven't woken up early to get out on the rubber ducky and troll. Like always when i wake up i head straight for the rods and set them before anything else.

I had the float out on one side and the cod rod out sitting 2 feet below the surface on the other. I had just gone inside to get a drink and then i hear the Cod rod hitting the side of the boat as its bent over in my makeshift rod holder i use. I ran out and after a relatively quick fight i had colour and a nice 62cm and fat my biggest one yet. I had got him hooked right in the top of his lip using a circle hook perfectly set and easy to get out.

After a few quick snaps it was back in to fight another day and grow bigger, defiantly worth the 7-8 hours the night before after catching this.
