Upper Coliban

Post by Hookset » Tue Aug 08, 2017 11:29 pm

New here, always hunting around for fishing reports so thought I'd start making some of my own!
Went for an afternoon fish, haven't been to Upper Coliban for years so thought why not. Water level is full, spillway in action:

Was fairly windy for the first hour had no interest on worms or powerbait on the bottom. Was throwing some tassie devils and other lures around, had a decent sized trout follow a gold minnow type in but that was it. After the wind died down a bit switched to soft plastics, first cast watched a nice trout follow my 3" minnow and it wasn't long before I landed this healthy 47cm Brown:

Had a few more near misses after that, then a tiny rainbow followed by another healthy brown at 43cm just before dusk.

Wind made it quite cold out, but a great days fishing

Good stuff mate, nice report.

I am wanting to take my 7 year old here, what is the best place to access the water from.

Hey KeenAds, I would recommend going down Premier Mine Rd off Trentham Rd. You can check on google maps to find all the accessible roads to the reservoir. Nice and solid brown btw.

Cheers mate. I will check it out. Tried to look on google maps not long ago but looks like that area isn't mapped out fully on street view.
