Retracing old steps

Post by ratbag » Thu Feb 16, 2017 7:07 pm

Headed to the Taponga river on Sunday morning to see how it fishes now. Been a few years since I made up this way & under pressure to convince my son to come along on the adventure. Mansfield had a couple of stinkers with the heat & Sunday saw a big drop in the temperature.

Early start from Mansfield

A leisurely drive up to Jamieson and onto the the Big River road..

We had to stop at a few signs, just for the record :a_goodjob:

The sunrise was a facade, when we drove into the camp the clouds hung over us and remained there for the rest of the day.

Then onto the Taponga river camp & get the tools ready for the day.

Some great scenery to enjoy while working!

....and then some success :water: Most were around this size for the day, old mate missed a stonker on his celta, which has his interest to head back sometime to try it all again.

We managed to get 27 trout & 1 lost redfin for our mornings effort. Successful flies were an adams and royal wolff. Successful lures were the trusty old rapalas floater & a celta #1.

The camp sites along the Big river road are pretty good, all with long drops, clean and easy to access.

Good father/son trip, with good catches, thanks for sharing, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
