Seymour Fishing Report

Post by todge » Tue Feb 07, 2017 4:33 pm

Visited Seymour for the first time fishing today. I live in Woodend and my brother lives in Shepparton so this seemed a good place for us to meet up and spend some quality time together!

Checking online it said the local Total Sports was a tackle shop - I figured it would also sell bait. However, Total Sports has closed down - or at least there was a 'For Lease' sign in the window (the shop may have moved but I couldn't find it and the window had no "We've moved to X". Not sure if it ever sold bait but certainly does not now :(.

So went straight to Plan B. The 'Shell?" service station on Emily St. sells live worms for 12 a pack. A little steep but was the only option I could find.

We then went to the Lions Park on Manners St - arriving at about 11:30am today:

The first fishing jetty has a tree down in front of it so poses a real problem with tangles and, as my brother said "Even if we catch one there's no chance getting it through the branches". So we drove about 300 metres along the dirt road until we came to another jetty. This one was great. Raised and no obvious snags. The only complaint was the tree branches hanging pretty low that made casting a challenge.
Look the fishing wasn't great - not even a nibble. But the location was fabulous:

Live bait was worms, I also threw a few lures but nothing. I think I should have taken advice I'd seen given on the forum to use yabbies or cheese. Still the day wasn't about the fishing, really. Just great to catch up with my brother!

Cheers for the report mate, would have been a good day out regardless. $10-12 is the going price range for worms in my experience.

Thanks all. It is such a convneient spot and the 'Burger Me' roadside restaurant at the entrance to the park makes a pretty mean burger! A little on the expensive side for me - I think mine was just a 'plain' burger for $7 - the it was very tasty!

Nice report. Great looking spot and quality time with family. Thats what it's about!
