nude ups secret surface lure cod spot
My two work mates got hooked on the barra at hazelwood so since we didnt have any more lucky coupons to fish it we headed out to forum member nude ups secret cod dam.
It was was a cracker morning and the cod were smashing the surface weedless frogs and the spinner baits just under the surface from 5am to abt 930am
It was abt funny that the 3 of the big cod 83cm,85cm and 70 cm were caught late in the session.
Early on the fish around 30 to 50 smashed everything..we got one ripper early on though.
allthough none of these cod are massive we only have 15 pd line so its a fair fight.
we keep fishing from 930am to at least 11am but once the sun was up the cod shut down.
I know alot of people say how good a way it is to fish for cod but once you do it you will never go back to any other way
a few times this morning I watch the cod stalk the lure.....before smashing it.
once again..thanks nude up for the location.
cheers bm

Re: nude ups secret surface lure cod spot
Great fish BM.
Its taken a while for people to catch on that you can catch cod (and other natives) and surface lures. I still enjoy bait fishing in the hard to get to spots too, but surface smashes really get the adrenalin going! It is hard to break the shackles of old methods but experimenting is well worth it.
Yellowbelly take surface lures too, but are a bit harder than cod - worth the effort. When they approach the lure the dorsal fin appears out of the water like a great white, slicing through the water just before they hit. Those approaches to the lure are unbelievable.
Well done mate.

Re: nude ups secret surface lure cod spot
Great work Mick, Cod on surface is one is one of my favourite ways to fish atm.
I've picked up two yellows and a silver out of a private dam on surface and have had 3 completely different takes, one of the yellow belly hit in a very similar manner to a bass, one came up and gently 'sipped' the back of the lure from under the water and the silver slashed at a popper and hooked itself in the side of the face.Truedogz wrote:Great fish BM.
