South Morang/Epping/Mernda area spots?

Hi gang,

Recently moved to the northern suburbs in South Morang. Any locals know of some fishing spots in a roughly 30-45 minute radius. Very keen to test the waters down here.

Welcome aboard mate. I was born n raised in the area! What are looking at targeting? Can you drive? And how far are you willing to walk?

Anything to be honest. Yeah I can drive, probably wouldn't want to venture any further that 45 mins out. Just very keen to start flicking a few lures.

Plenty in the plenty! Some good Redfin in the plenty river a lot of carp and eels too! Personally I like to fish the Mernda area of the plenty! U gotta walk a lot further but it gets hardly any fishing pressure!

Mill park lakes is growing as a local carp hole a mate of mine has pulled out a 10kg 85cm carp from there. It used to be great for Redfin. But not so much these days!

Yarrambat lake is very low I've been meaning to get out there u can drive right up to the lake!

If trout is what your after king parrot creek around flowerdale is within your radius.

If all else fails just fish the Yarra.. Any stretch! It's pretty underrated.

Google the carome homestead it's in Mernda the river runs behind it there is some good water in this area just be prepared to walk!

There's not many spots locally for lure fishing apart from Yarrambat lake which has small reddies & is also stocked on the school holidays with trout. The plenty river is close by but only any good for carp, eels & roach. If you want to catch a fish less than an hour from South Morang lure fishing then I would say the King Parrot creek would be the go mate. :thumbsup:

Also there is a small lake on plenty road near uni hill and the tram line. There's some Redfin in there I know mates have caught them but I've never been successful myself!

Maribyrnong river around keilor is also a nice area to spin for Redfin
