I live in Ballarat but have never fished Wendouree - about to try tomorrow morning, actually, using a variety of spinners and tassies. Unfortunately getting on the water itself isn't an option at the moment (I would LOVE to fish the rowing lanes near the weedbeds, but oh well). Can anyone advise of a decent shore location for casting? Reds, trout, all good. I just don't want to spend hours flicking in a lure with no results.

Cheers!

PS: Apologies if I necro'd this thread... didn't want to start a new one if this one was still alive and kicking.
Hi there :) welcome to the forum mate  I don't fish much freshwater but I'm sure someone on here will help you out soon :) looking forward to some reports

Thanks for the welcome :-D

I've been piecing together some tidbits from a variety of sources in regards to shorecasting Lake Wendouree. The common things I keep hearing is:

A: You can fish from anywhere. Except, some say (and ironically) from the "T" pier on the right-most side of the lake.
B: Flies are great. Night time crickets on bobbers are great in summer.
C: Lures: Use a shallow crank or minnow. Be wary of floating weeds.
D: Use a semi-fast retrieve if using a deeper lure.

As I said I'll be going out tomrrow morning. Unfortunately, it will be a short scouting trip as I have other commitments. I'll try to post a report depending on the outcome.

Barometer a bit low for the reddies, but should be great conditions for trout. Any landbased spot is worth a crack. Pegron spoons also work a treat. Hopefully the fish are out and about. Best of luck!

Well, had only one fish this morning as it turned out... smack dab at sunrise (about 706am) - brown trout. Decent size... didn't really feel it take the lure and it didn't fight until it was brought close to shore. In fact, I wasn't even sure I had a fish at first. First time fishing Wendouree. First-ever brown trout. Largest trout I've ever caught. All in all not a bad morning, but more fish would have been nice lol. Caught on a 1/8 TT Switchblade, dull red colour.

Next weekend, back out to Newlyn to see what we can bring up!

Well, if anyone's interested, I'll be fishing off the shore in the same location on Wendouree, behind Pipers, seeing if I can get another brown. I'll be there from about 0630-0830/9 if anyone wants to hang out and chat.
