Lake Wendouree

Post by TrevKing » Mon Jul 29, 2013 7:31 pm

Hi all
Starting a thread dedicated to fishing in Lake Wendouree - I'm planning to fish it heavily during the next few months and see if it can produce some nice trout and possibly reddies.
Hopefully going to have a flick there at least once a week (possibly even weekdays, after school :P ) and post reports on the area fairly regularly.

Anyway, I flicked hardbodies around on Sunday from about 4:30 until 5:30 near the start of the rowing course - no action.
Wind was freezing. :cold:

Next time I head out I'll be trying plastics.

I was there last Thursday renovating my house. i decided to have smoko and go for a flick tried a range of lures with some advice from the locals with no avail. On the other hand I was lucky enough to be there when I bloke pulled one out "brown trout" useing worms from his garden and it had to of been 40cms plus and some serious girth.

There defs some large fish there.. Iam thinking of useing bait next time.

I had a few days around Ballarat in June, I fished wendouree a couple of times and found evenings to be the most productive, soft plastics seemed to be hit most.

cheers

I was up there on Saturday i stopped to check the lake out on my way home from Burumbeet.
lots of surface waves due to high winds, water looked a little murky so i didn't bother casting in anything but i like the location and the reports coming from this lake.
Will try my luck next time im up there.
Any tips as to what parts of the lake fishes best??

Find yourself a spot where there is no surface weed and fish there, you might have to drive around the lake a bit. The T shaped jetty is good as well as View point.
Use worms and orange powerbait or Tassie devil lures and shallow running lures, minnow style soft plastics are also good.
Hope this helps

Just heading out for a 2-3 hour flick at the lake now.
Will be fishing behind pipers/at the adventure playground.
Great day for it, hopefully I can land a fish or two.

Just got back home. I used plastics and small hardbodies and caught nothing. A guy near me caught a decent 45-50cm trout on powerbait.
Next time I will probably be using bait .

Lake is very full atm.
