Just saw on the VR FIsh website:

BREAKING NEWS: We have just received confirmation the Minister for Fisheries has announced a stocking program for Murray cod, golden perch and estuary perch for Rocklands Reservoir near Balmoral. This fishery has the potential to be even better than Lake Eildon! VRFish and local Angling clubs have been advocating for native fish for Rocklands for over 15 years.
More to come... UPDATE: 50,000 cod fingerings have already been released by the VFA with another 150,000 on the way. 200,000 golden perch fingerlings will be due for release later this summer.

This will be a massive boost for the area! looking forward to catching a cod in a few years time

Outstanding result!

Between Rocklands and Toolondo the region will now have one of the best Native and best Trout fisheries in the state, within an hour of each other.

I have nothing whatsoever against stocking native fish in Rocklands - it is a great idea - but it is unfortunate that they stock fingerlings in a lake full of Redfin and a healthy population of comorants. Am sure the Redfin will be very happy! One wonders if Vic Fisheries would be better stocking fewer but larger fish. Food for thought!

Interesting move, particularly the statement of "potentially being an even better cod fishery than lake eildon" Cod were and still are naturally in the streams that form lake eildon, way before it was built.Yet there is now no closed season on cod in eildon because they don't breed in those conditions.Smell's a bit of a vr fish, vfa "look at what we are doing" to justify our existence thing.Be interested to hear from someone like truedogs what he thinks of it.

Everyone we spoke to said the same thing. It's been very slow fishing there of late.

Just checked the previous releases and there was around 300,000 of cod and yellow belly for the last couple of years. They will be getting bigger and with the recent rain there should be a good food supply this season.
Good times ahead.
