Hey All,

First time on this fishing forum, so just a small introduction - Names Lewis, from Western suburbs of Melbourne, and recently got back into fishing whilst the footy season is over.

as of recently I have been inland lakes in search of trout.

I went lake fyans on the 15th of January and landed 30 small redfin with my mate using lures and Mudeye under a float. But this report will be about Saturday gone (04/02/2017)

We arrived at about 9am and it was Sunny and the weather for the day was 30 degrees. We waded out about 30 metres where the water was about 1.5m deep. My set up was Mudeye under a bubble which was effective immediately, landing a 20cm Reddy. as we would bring in the bait/lure there would be schools of red fin, about 10-20 at a time chasing the bait. I swapped to a red Spinner and landed another about 20cm instantly! lures worked but there is only so much joy you can have catching small fish. we left in search of trout and tried other places closer to home.

Basically in the two times we went, the conditions were identical., both times they were 30+ degrees, slight breeze, and mudeyes were the key. If you are in the area and just want to catch a fish, i recommend here, you dont need waders, the water isnt too cold, and it's sandy underfoot.

If you havent been before there is a sandy/bushy shore though plenty of large sugar/bull ants which make it difficult to stand around barefoot or have food around, i wouldnt recommend sitting around incase they climb and bite you.

Please feel free to give me feedback or ask questions,

Looking forward to being a part of this Forum!

Cheers

Lewis

I have camped in the caravan park on the lake there many years ago but when we were there it was full of water skiers. We didn't the boat on that trip so fishing was from the bank with young kids and all we got was reddies. Nice first report looking forward to many more tight lines

Fished Fyans Wednesday arvo/evening with mudeyes, caught about 20 little reddies only slightly bigger than my mudeyes, only saw one decent fish.

Regards

Yep, the first time i caught heaps and was quite excited to go back and try again with more supplies, but after catching probably the exact same reddy's again, it got quite repetitive and boring. I was reading a fishing paper at work today which had a big spread in regards to Red Fins, one line which stood out the most was when it said red fin are good fish to introduce children to as they are quite easy and common in warmer months.... :(

Welcome mate! Good report. I certainly have a soft spot for that place. Admittedly I've only fished it from a boat in the winter months though. There are trout over 10lb and reddies over 50cms in there. I've pulled a 50cm reddie (now on my wall), but have only pulled browns up to 6lb so far. If you're LB, maybe try around the wall next time. It's the deepest part of the lake, being 5-6m deep (depending on water levels) if you put in a good cast. Maybe also try some yabbies for the bigger sized reddies too. Dont give up mate, Fyans can certainly produce the goods. Keep up the good work.

Where about was the wall located? we were inbetween the two boat ramps. When looking out at the lake, the Caravan was on the left hand side of us
