Wartook

Post by Fisho11 » Tue Dec 29, 2015 11:07 pm

Hi all, Heading to Wartook tomorrow afternoon,
Just wondering if anyone has fished there recently and had luck.
Will be taking the kayak out for its maiden voyage.
Thanks Fisho

Fished there land based a few times before the fires a few years ago. Jetty at the boat ramp has burnt down and hasn't been replaced that I know of. Looks fishy. Bellfield may be another option for your yak.

This info is current enough and the map gives you an idea of depths

http://www.sweetwaterfishing.com.au/Wartook.htm

Trout will be more likely first and last light when you can fish the edges and weed edges. The depth drops away quickly off the wall till the first reed patch toward the east end beyond which it gets shallow in the metre or less range. You can troll about 3 to 5 metres out from the wall with a shallow lure on the wall side and a 3 to 5 metre diver lakeside for patrolling trout.

Fished from 5 till around 8, In the yak for the first time, Decided to fish a sheltered area and target the reed beds, after about 2 hours of zilch I changed to a 70mm squidgie Green Grunter, soon after I casted to a rise and a wind or 2 after the lure hit the water I was on! Thought it was a brown trout at first the way it was taking line and the colour when it surfaced but when it got closer i realised Ide caught my first Tench! Looked around the 40cm mark.
