Local Reddies 2.0

Post by TrevKing » Mon Dec 14, 2015 4:57 pm

A few weeks ago I put up a report of some reddies I'd been catching in a local dam.
Headed there again for the first time in a while today. First cast, the spinner I was using was followed in by a large school of micro reddies. At the last second this little guy grabbed the lure:

After landing a couple more around the same size I got bored and moved along the bank a bit to a large snag in the water. My spinner got smashed as I pulled it past the snag and after a good fight I landed this nice 36cm fish.

After a few more casts at the snag I moved a bit further along the bank to the next snag. Noticed that this guy was making quite a bit of noise around a fallen log.

First cast I hit what seemed to be a snag, but if I pulled hard enough whatever I'd hooked slowly came towards the shore. Eventually a big, muddy opera house net surfaced. Whoever decided to use it seemingly forgot to hang on to the rope when they tossed it out. The net contained a baby redfin, a huge, dying yabby, and a TT switchblade in perfect condition. :-D

Next cast I hooked something strange again. It turned out to be another big yabby all tangled up in someone elses fishing line.

After spending quite a bit of time untangling it, I finally got him back in the water and he darted off happily.

The fish went a bit quiet after that, and after nearly a full lap of the dam I'd only managed to land a few more tiny reddies. However, a cast into a shallow weedy area produced this nicely coloured specimen:

After releasing that fish I tied on a Savage Gear blade. First cast it seemed to be another hit with the micro reddies.

Unfortunately I snagged and lost the lure on the next cast. :(
Decided to head home after that. All in all another good session, I'll be back there soon chasing that elusive 40cm+ reddie!

You know the story mate, little fish get bigger so your spot will have some good size fish before you know it, ;-) the 36cm is a good fish, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
