It is the entrance channel. The bit between the rock walls that controls the exchange of water between the lake and the ocean. Not the bar itself. Most of the depth in that area is maintained by tidal flow and the small dredge. However sometimes the hopper dredge and the old Sidecaster have helped. The current thinking for the design that is maintained is that changes to that area would severely impact flooding of low lying areas around the lake. It is unfortunate that over the last 200 years development on what was the flood plain was allowed. It is this development that has indirectly , along with dams ,killed the brackish system.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.
