Fished off Lakes today

Post by ango » Tue Dec 12, 2017 9:30 pm

Hi all,
I had a crack out from Lakes today, plenty of boats out, only one trailer parking space left at the skate park boat ramp. It was very quiet first up, probably conditions were too good, I always do better with a bit of chop on the water, I moved around plenty looking for the fish, tried the reefs at first, only found barber perch and undersize pinkies, also caught a wrasse? earlier on the reefs, anyone know what it really is? I then moved onto the sand and finally found a patch of flathead and caught a feed,
Cheers Ango

Can't beat a feed of flatties. Patchy today offshore. Some boats in with not much and some with bag out of gummies from the beach to the west. Only a few pinkies caught. Good to see the flatties picking up a bit. I was out doing an offshore person transfer to another commercial vessel didn't get a chance to fish anywhere good, as we were up towards Marlo all day. Did drop a line on Marlo reef for a while but just lots of wrasse and Perch
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

At least you ended up with a feed and you can't beat flattie tails.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you said only 1 park left at the ramp. I'm guessing you didn't launch early than? Generally fishing is best first thing in the morning and in the evening. The early bird catches the worm!

I arrived at the ramp about 8.00 am, funnily, I caught the flatties later on between 12.30 & 2.00 pm, maybe they started to bite because the wind came up and put a bit of chop on the water?
Cheers Ango.
