Mixed bag off lakes.
Headed off lakes early this morning. Plan was to chase a big red down the pipe. But on second thoughts couldn't be bothered dealing with every red neck down there. So gummys were the order of the day.
Crossed the bar early headed for my never fail mark. Dropped first bait just before 5. Had only managed 2 gurned in over an hour than finally the tell tail gummy bounce in the holder. Than bang bang bang 6 in about 30-40 minutes and we were bagged out before 7. Couldn't ask for much more. Well we thought it would be rude not to check the reef on the way back for an hour or 2. Managed a few pinkies, flatties etc to top the day off.
Marked something interesting on the way out in the morning. Heaps of bait around but was pitch black so couldnt see anything that was going on. Keen to see if someone could suggest what it might of been.

Great bag those flathead look big. Were you moving or drifting when you took that screen shot looks like a big fish rising to check out the other mark.

Re: Mixed bag off lakes.
Nice bag. I might give the gummies a shot later this week. We had a few nice fish last Thursday. Most boats have found it pretty scratchy down the pipeline this week. I think next week when the moon is close to full will be different story. everyone goes chasing the big fish at the pipeline once they appear. They forget there is plenty of smaller stuff and gummies , flathead out the front in the deeper areas.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

Cheers fellas.
Shot of sounder was taken at about 5 knots so only poking along slowly. What ever it was it wasn't small but I don't no much about it. Only new sounder and still learning to read it. Was out wide so could of been anything. Waiting for the billfish to turn up keen to hook 1 off lakes

The thing on your sounder would most likely to be a whale. I came across a few when fishing myself off lakes...
