Just paternoster with pilchards and squid. You can't have people casting out on a charter boat. Too many tangles and hooks flying around. Usually anchor up and just drop the lines to the bottom and no slack line. Anyone hooks something large then everyone reels in to stop tangles. It can be a bit challenging with inexperienced people and people with English as a second language. Throw in a few kids and seasick people and it gets interesting.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

hahaha yes yes ofcourse, with the depths like that casting and waiting for it to hit bottom will never work, it will have to be dropshots etc. what sort of sinker weights were you guys using?

Good work! Awesome session there!

So you just help out as a deckhand re-tyred? Do you do this often?

I just help out a mate and get to do a bit of fishing.
I do have a passenger carrying ticket for vessels up to 12mtr so I have taken out charters but Makos vessel (Panama 2) is 17mtrs so can't take it as my 24mtr ticket is only for commercial fishing vessels not passengers.

Not sure what the weight is. Maybe 2 or 3oz. Not much tide most days and we are anchored up so no need for heavy gear. My own gear I use a 1oz running sinker, but that doesn't work on a charter vessel with 8 or 10 people as you have to cast out a running sinker. If you just drop it over the side it will wrap up on the way down.
Running sinker and light gear with a 1/0 or 2/0 hook does much better on the mowies and pinkies. Also squid is best for mowies and produces pinkies at times. Once the big ones come on then it's upgrade to heavier gear and 4/0 ,5/0 hooks with a whole pilly.
