The nearest ground is 85km from the entrance. 38.27S 148.40E is a good starting point. The course takes you close to West Tuna rig and flounder rig. You must keep 500mtrs away from them. Best to make it twice that. There is no phone reception and no VHF shore station reception.

Damn that's a long way. Check out what the Taswegians have to contend with:

I was asking because I've done trips where i have done around 200ks and gone through half that fuel with twin honda 150s on a 7m boat.
My tank is around 350L.

So would you say you'd do around 200-250ks in a day going out from lakes to catch swords?

Not just the distance but the location as well.

Some wild water out there.

If you have 250km range that would be heaps.

I used 130L each day. Single 140, all just depends on economy of the boat. I would bank on enough petrol to make it there and back and there again. E.g- 80km there, 80km back and spare 80km of fuel. (Also add in the petrol used when moving around etc).

We were in a shark cat. Twin 2stroke. 150hp? Came home on one motor after an electrical problem.

Found the fault, for him, on his motor today. Things are so much easier when you are onshore. Fuel pump wasn't running, a bit of exploration and found a broken spade connector ... Little things can cause big problems when you are offshore.

Absolutely awesome stuff happening in Victoria. I recall a post on another forum about 3-4 years ago where a sword fish was washed up on 90 mile beach. It must have been back then that people started to fish this great fishery which has been kept hush hush for quite some time.
It is the Lakes Entrance bar that I would have great respect for if I were to go out for a fish - and I am not talking about the local pub. I have heard the bar can be dangerous if you don't pick your day and don't know what you're doing.
Any concerns or suggestions on the Lakes Entrance bar???

Joe
