Surface Perch

Post by rb85 » Wed Dec 28, 2016 9:24 pm

Had a brief fish at a location that will remain nameless fished a hardbody for no hits but a few follows from bream as the wind eased and light dropped I changed to a little surface popper working it near snags.

About 10 casts in the water exploded and after a short fight landed my 1st estuary perch estimated to be around 370.

Been a good summer first Barra, Bass now Perch

Well done!

Now you have caught your first the next fish will be easier.

You need to add Murray cod and trout cod to your list of fish on surface lures. Head up to the Goulburn, Broken or Ovens Rivers and have a go! To improve your chances get some of the wadling surface lures like Pompadours. You don't need massive ones either if the water is shallow enough.

Best Wishes

Thanks Truedogz,

Murray Cod and Trout Cod are definitely on the list hope to do it Jan or Feb so thanks for the advice.

Last nights catch was satisfying due to having ideas/plan work.

Last few years I have mainly fished WesternPort out of my boat soaking bait for whiting and gummies. Lure fishing has definitely reignited the passion.

The Vic bucket list grows.
