Dunno if I can go fast enough for long enough in the yak to make a big lure like that work properly, but I've got a couple of Williamson Speedpros to try anyway. One plan is to grab a couple of squid at Cleeland Bight and take them for a troll around Woolamai and out to the pinnacle to see if there's any around.barra mick wrote:I had some good luck last year trolling xraps for kingies....pretty simple but efective.4liters wrote:I realised as soon as I brain spiked the smaller salmon that I should have rigged it up and sent it back down again. Probably would've just got couta-ed but could have been worth a shot.DougieK wrote:Nup.
Go 400lb leader, locked drag, whole live salmon under a balloon.
I'll come pick you up from Tasmania.

Great report. Love the pics. How good is it to get time off just to go fishing, use your boat, Yak new gear etc.
Sometimes you even get to catch great fish just to top it off. Look forward to the next report.

Great report pity you didn't hook into what you were looking for but at least you caught enough fish to keep you interested and the scenery awesome

That's fishing, and being a complete novice at catching kingfish there's bound to be a few fruitless trips along the way. If the winds forecast for Saturday stay as they are I should be able to get out and have another crack at them if the kayak still floats with all the extra ballast I'm carrying after ChristmasNude up wrote:Great report pity you didn't hook into what you were looking for but at least you caught enough fish to keep you interested and the scenery awesome

Great report and pics! May I ask what's the reason you have a clean white towel on the bow of your yak? Is there a live bait well underneath?

Re: Wilson's Prom/ 24/12
The insulated fish bag under it doesn't do a great job of keeping the fish cold on warm days so I put a towel over it which I wet periodically to make sure the fish don't get too hot.shazdoggg wrote:Great report and pics!
