Solo on the Stones

Post by DougieK » Tue Mar 22, 2016 2:34 pm

I'd like to preface this report with three important points.

The first, an awful lot of the commentary on here is obviously meant to be satire, and not to be taken seriously.

Second, if you are offended by swearing, have children with you or are at work, then this is probably not the report for you.

Third, there aren't any fish in this report, so if you're only here to farm information then you might as well go back to Facebook. Victorian LBG is seriously hard work, my intention in this post is to provide insight and entertainment, as opposed to a 'how to' with a hero shot posing with a big fish at the end.

Righteo.

Yesterday having cracked the shirts with my previous trip to red point, featuring me getting out fished not only by a fishingvic member's 8 year old son but also the Greek Goddess who beat my PB squid with her first successful capture, I lined up some fresh bait, packed some food and water, got up at stupid o'clock and headed for Wilsons Prom. I chose the Prom following a few points, the first, the warm currents coming in from East Bass Straight shown on the BOM maps discussed in another thread on here, and secondly based on some old research I found in some LBG articles from the 1970's that were kindly provided to me by John Derkacz.

The 3am start was highlighted by a couple of mcmuffins and a two giant coffees, the trip down entirely uneventful. Arriving in an empty carpark, I quickly threw on my pack and rod sling and started up the hill. The walk in to Tongue Point is appox 5km and uncomfortably steep, but the ledge drops into 15m of water and has provided some entertaining hookups in the past. Being solo, I had to carry everything for a days fishing on my own.

Spun the beach there for two hours. Not a touch. Heaps of baitfish in front of me and some jellies as well. Got home about 10pm.

One quick note on Tongue Point. This place is remote and the walk / climb in is extremely taxing. If you think places like Stockyard and Gunnamatta are difficult to fish, or refer to the walk in to Martha as a 'goat track' then this is not the spot for you. At one point in the second spot i had to throw my pack up the ledge, wedge my back into one boulder and my feet into another and shimmy up like that. Life jackets, Rock boots etc are a must for anyone that's not extremely experienced and competent, and a good supply of water must be taken. For reference, I took 5L of water, two meals and probably an additional 2000kcal in bananas, lollies, nuts, etc. Don't go un prepared.

Thank you all for taking the time to watch these. If you like this more video centric style of report i'll post more of them in the future. I'll put up the map i was talking about in one of the vids soon.

In all seriousness Douglass you really should not go alone on these remote treks, anything could happen from boulders falling on you to a snake bite in the bushes, I'd hate to see you come unstuck buddy...

It's quite a nice walk when you're not carrying gear.

Broke Cam Hill is better.

As with most things that are any fun, I understand and accept the risks everytime i set foot on a rock ledge.

I like the reporting, a bit different to the standard stuff out there. You got to invest in the tight jeans and micro drucken rodent stick lol
