Fishing around sale

Post by cameronpatrol » Tue May 19, 2015 12:51 pm

G'day all
The family and I have just moved to sale.
Been here for two weeks myself after finishing up work.
Anyway I'm keen to chase fish with the kids and myself more so lol.

We had bit of a fish on the Avon in Stratford up river of the bridge.
I used an atomic floating lure the. Tried a small pink tassie devil.
No good.

What sort of fish is there in the Avon in that area?

Also the Thompson downriver from sale port.
Looks awsome.
What can I expect to catch there?
Once I've picked up my patrol from our old home I'm goin to head out bush and chase trout.

Is there trout in any of these rivers close to sale?

What sort of lures and plastics should I be running to get onto what ever type of fish are close to home?

Thanks in advance
Cheers cam :Bar:

i believe there are bream in the river heading south (haven't tried it myself).

If you get bored with the Trout/fresh water head down to Seaspray (about 30 mins drive) and hook up Salmon, Flatties and shark down there. I got some awesome Salmon and Flatties down there in January this year. Also if you like crab meat there are nice sized crabs off the beach. There is also an estuary there you can kayak for whiting, flatties and Bream.
Not being a local I can't comment on the fresh water side.

Thanks heaps for the help there.
I'm keen to get down to the beach there also.
I wasn't sure where the estuary part was, as we went to hunky suckles the first time we came up
And what I saw on the map was dry grass and not a bridge crossing an estuary lol
I'm picking up our four wheel drive and last of the house gear this weekend so I can get out and about.

What sort of lures or plastics do bream fancy ?
I found a fly fishing club online that's in sale.
I think I'll try to get to a meeting or few and get to know some people.
I'd love to get into fly fishing and get some lessons also.

Thanks again for your help
Cheers cam

I go across to Licola and fish the Macalister for trout, it's a bit over an hours drive from Sale.
Saltwater, I'll go over to the silt jetties at Eagle Point for bream or to Seaspray/Golden Beach for salmon etc.

Bring the rod and squid jigs, you'd probably hook onto a few.

I was very tempted lol
I've got a fair few spots to chase fish down old home.
It was the first time back there for a few weeks so flat out catching up with friends and family.

A mate is coming down this weekend and we're going to have a crack on the trout.
Think I'll ask at tackle shop where a rough area would be.
Thinking of heading north up bush
Try to find a nice stream / river.

I'm not sure on distances and times yet for around here.
Maybe an hours drive each way is enough for a day trip.
Cheers cam
