Cheers lads
Ive only done good at gunna once so far, mind you I havnt been there all that much.
I used to hit portsea most of the time, when we lived in sorrento.
I had a nice hole that always gave at least one fish lol
Yeah the line was pretty second hand when the sinker took off.
It might have been 20 lb i cant remember it would have been cheap crap anyhow.
the knot didnt give way as it was a paternosta rig and on the sinker end id just done a figure of 8 loop so i can swap and change when need be.
not sure what size sinker weight wise it was. its was a star sinker with a torpedo.
it was around a medium sized sinker.
but i did notice the line had some nicks in it.
cheers cam

Carl might even have a camouflaged secret hideaway down there.
Don't get discouraged Cam..the buggers won't be back on the beaches in any great numbers for another month or so yet..time enough to get some casting practice in.

Ive had similar experiences many moons ago when growing up in queensland fishing beaches on Fraser island and around rainbow beach the dart and tailor would really fire up on really overcast days with dark skies leading up to a storm.mazman wrote:apparently salmon feed heavily on a dropping barometer, some of my best salmon trips have been while a storm is building.

Im still getting used to the new rod thats for sure.
it feels a bit weird to cast.,
im not sure if it will grow on me, hopefully it does.
the bit under the reel has a small bit of handle then a big gap of just the rood and then a small bit of handle on the bottom
it feels strange to cast having a hand so far down to hold onto the handle, but then theres not enough if I hold it up near the reel.
practice i guess.
I can get a pretty wicked swing on the catana, time will tell.
I rekon I might need a heavier lure as well, I picked two up at the shop when i got the line spooled on it.
an 18g and a 25 i think it was.
not my favorite slugs though as they didnt have any.
my luck slug was a gillies plichard, served me well for a few fish.
the rod says it can take a 35 gram, so i'll see if kmart has any on the shelf.
might have to tee up a surf session in the future when the fish have mad their way back in.
cheers cam

Hey Cam, the jewels are rated to 35 gram, but would chuck a 50 without a struggle, catana would be pretty similar I reckon. 40 gram gillies bait fish lures go really well on those rods, and are cheap into the bargain.
You'll soon know when the sambo's are firing...lol..I might head up thursday evening for a wander regardless..
