Never forget the guns!!!!
Been a while since I put up a report , but I figured this one probably was worthy of a post.
Never take a knife to a gunfight!! That stands true up and until you are not carrying a gun and get ambushed, then you use what you have to fend for yourself.
So somehow last night I found myself battling some decent salmon, and all I had with me was my trusty black label 610lxfs and a 2004 caldia with 6lb line.. and ofcourse that day the fish are XOS and out with a vengeance.. few earned their freedom from jumping and throwing the hooks, or wrapping us on whatever they could find..
The ones that stuck decided that towing 2 of us on a boat was a great idea, or maybe just double hook-ups is where the fun was for them while towing the bow one way, and the stern the other way.. or perhaps they just wanted to test the limits of our gear, or even just maybe the sound of the caldia crying were music to their ears (and mine ofcourse). Whatever it was it was organised chaos at its best..
I land my Personal best @ 55cm amongst all the melee, and so does my cousin @57cm , all fun must eventually come to an end and that came in the form of sundown, we decide to pack up as it was getting late and the obligatory last cast gets absolutely smashed.. if you have caught a mulloway then you will know how the first run is, line was peeling off the reel and not stopping, and then she jumps as soon as it landed in the water I knew this was no small fish and I ask my cousin to chase it, we spend a good 15 minutes trying to tire this fish and by then its dark and I have no idea where the fish is going so am fighting blind, eventually we get a headlight onto the fish and slowly tire it to the net, here was the next problem the fish wouldn’t fit in the net, so had to improvise and somehow get it in there and quickly onboard…
Ill let the pics do the talking now.. PB broken twice in an hour, this time 67cm @ 3.8kg my hands are still hurting…….
We also landed a bag of squid with a few decent ones in there , all in all a good day on the water..
