king fish

Post by barra mick » Fri Apr 28, 2017 2:23 pm

Went out this morning for a fish in pretty bad weather really.

Was meeting a mate at the ramp at 330 am but he was a no show so I put the boat in and then called him to get "oh **** my alarm didnt go off "

Hes from ringwood so I couldnt wait for him..there was another boat there and they were heading out the rip also sp after quick chat they asked if they could follow me out.

Pretty slow and safe trip out but got there with it still dark

I trolled for a good two hrs for nothing and no fish on the sounder.

I then tried what ms shimano did the other day and trolled squid but that didnt work either....I was thinking to myself I should be eating these squid instead but it was pretty rough to cook.

I then had alot off good luck and found some fish on the sounder so I trolled through these fish a few times changing lures until I found a colour that made them bite.

I had 6 strikes and lots off luck to land 4 kingies .

the biggest was 6.5 kg and the 2nd 4.9kg.

the two I released were and the 3 kg mark.

its hard to tell how many were around in the school but im guessing around 20 to 30 fish.

They disappeared as quick as I found them and I was feeling a bit sick as I was getting tossed around a bit.

I stopped at nude ups secret snapper spot on the way home but there was only pinkies there today..

cheers bm

Nice catch mate, makes the morning worth it!

Might have to follow you out there one day as I am yet to try the RIP.

What kind of boat are you running there?

Great report BM...appreciate that you put the lure in the photo again.
Sounds like you might be needed to head a FV convoy out to the rip for all us newbies!
