Common Gurnard Perch
Over the past few months and years for that matter. We seem to continuously land the spikes Gurnard. We are yet to take them home for a feed. Has anyone else caught them and what are they like as a few. Mainly caught off Blairgowrie and Sorrento among flathead and squid.

They taste pretty good. Bleed them out and watch out for the spines

they are as good as flathead to eat when fresh but be warned if you get stung you could end up in hospital . If stung use hot water as hot as you can tolerate without burning your skin or get someone else to clean them

Re: Common Gurnard Perch
I rate them top notch on the plate. But not a great deal of meat on them. If I do catch one I'm going to keep I whack it with the donging stick while its dangling on the line and then use shears to cut off every single spine, fin, gill before it goes in the ice slurry. It may not be fool proof but I haven't been stung yet. They are supposed to be incredibly painful and are not worth the risk for many fishos.
