Sorrento, Rye report 24/10/16

Post by Sinsemilla » Mon Oct 24, 2016 10:31 pm

How are we all?

Had a plan to get a few squid in the morning then maybe go for some KGW.. I love when a plan comes together!

Launched the boat at Sorrento at around 8.30am with perfect conditions to drift for squid, I headed straight for the South channel fort. Got around 10 squid in an hour with not much size to them. Mostly taking the white jigs and natural colours with gold or silver foil.

Then headed over to the Rye wreck which is just off the channel which Is an area ive done really well on the snapper to see if I could mark anything up.
only pinkies and flatties so didn't really hang around long.

Started heading back towards Sorrento when I found some nice ground in 6m just off Rye. Dropped the anchor and got the burley down.
It didn't take long for the first whiting to join us on the deck.
didn't move from this spot for about 3 hours and just consistently kept plucking whiting. Ended up with 35 all around the mid to high 30cm range. They loved the pipi/squid strip cocktail.

Highlight of the day was watching bigger squid follow the whiting we were catching right upto the boat. I kept the whiting just under the surface and watched the squid attack it. Then dropped a jig down and got 3 bigger squid one after the other. The things are so aggressive when they are feeding like that.

All in all a great day on the water which I've been missing with all this freshwater fishing.

Cheers, Anth

Your right it doesn't get better. So many highlite from that day. Beautiful day, fishing with mate, and a awesome haul of fish. In regards to squid, grab a cheap handlinek and try a float out back just with a jig. Small ball sinker to keep near bottom. You be surprised how many squid you pick up, oh know they are there.
Great report
