Sorrento Pier 8/04/2016

Post by Stevieboy » Fri Apr 08, 2016 8:15 pm

Hey all,

Fished Sorrento Pier this arvo from 3:30-6. Ended up with 3 undersized flatties, 2 of the biggest puffer fish I've ever seen in my life and a cuttlefish :)
Must say this is my first cuttlefish I've ever caught. Best thing about it was I went down to Rye tackleshop this arvo and bought a new red/brown jig and broke it in nice and quick money well spent!

Question is are they any good to eat? Suggestions on cooking and cleaning/preparing would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers Steve.

There are some utube vids on preparing cuttlefish. I have never eaten them but I believe they are not as easy to prepare as squid.

Cheers..........ThomasG

More tasty than squid in my opinion. Pain in the butt to clean though.

Thanks all, I was definitely surprised when I pulled it up. I was fishing for whiting off the pier and was getting a bit bored as I kept on reeling in the undersized flatties and the pufferfish (didn't get one whiting). Decided to leave the baited rod and start casting with my spare rod with the jig and low and behold the ugliest thing I've ever seen reeled in.. a cuttlefish. Guess I'll do some YouTube work and suss out how to prepare and cook them. Now I've got an entre and main for my meal tomorrow night Cuttlefish for entre whiting for main while the misses gets 2 min noodles bahahahaha!!!

Went out this morning again and ended up taking home 1 nice sized squid threw back another 4 or 5 to catch another day. Gotta say all the research is finally paying off. Been out 3 times this week and each time come home with something!! Can say that I've definetly got the bug!
