I hit Rosebud pier around 4pm, weather was overcast, around 25C, but rain had stopped. Not sure about tides.
I spotted a school of flashing bait fish and thought I'd try a shiny gillies salmon lure and fish were interested but nothing happened. I loaded up with a zman 2 inch grub in motor oil. No interest.
I moved further down the pier and spotted some squid on the sandy bottom. I tried a number of squid jigs from white to natural to green to orange and no interest. At this point people started jumping into the water because it was apparently quite warm. I should have joined them!
I spotted the resident rays... magnificent creatures.
I tried a gulp 4 inch minnow on the way back to the car and got no interest.
Around 6pm, I decided the only feed I was going to get was at the fish and chip shop, so flathead tails and minimum chips were ordered and enjoyed at the beach and I headed back home around 7pm.

Looking at one of those rays, something else has been hungry sometime in the past as well, judging by the chunk that s missing out of one of those flaps/wings.
