blairgowrie gars 14/8

Post by buzztek » Fri Aug 15, 2014 7:47 am

my first day off since last monday and i was fiending to fish.
checked out sorrento and portsea piers but i was getting bad vibes (never fished there before) so i went to blairgowrie. got there at about 4pm looking for squid and gars. very calm conditions. berleyed up and waited.
After no action and alot of strange looks from locals and comments saying i wont get garfish here, (and snagging my only two pencil float rigs) i gave up on the gars and chucked a massive wad of berley that was left over.
By 5pm no squid either, so i moved to the side ur not meant to fish (where i chucked my berley) and saw heaps of long skinny fish swimming around.
In a mad frantic rush i found two size 10 long shanks in my tackle box and wipped up a monstrosity of a rig with no float and had a hectic but fun 15 minutes.
By the time it got dark they stopped biting and i managed one small squid on a 2.5 bright orange jig.
A few squid being caught here and there but looked like a very quite night on the marina.
Anyway i was wrapped with my lil gars (biggest being 30cm) and will enjoy them for lunch tomorro!

Never eaten the Gars but by all accounts they're pretty tasty! Good fresh bait too...

Nice one, seems like there are a few around. I'm going to try and get a few at Mornington tomorrow for a Snapper/Gummy trip on Sunday.

Not a marine park mate, is made up by the club! Rang DPI to check and they told me I could fish

I thought it was a marine park. Learn something everyday!

Nah, its just the yatch club doesnt want people casting around their boats I guess.

Definitely seems to be the more productive side lol

So can you legally fish the marina side? The yacht club might not like it, but they can't dish out fines...
