Yeah I had them fussy before where they only wanted a certain slug and a slow retrieve. Doesn't happen all the time though. Apparently in NSW this is quite common where they are only feeding on very small bait and a fly is the best. When they are schooled up there is a bit of competition, on the surf they probably only have a certain time window to look and hit as they wouldn't get to feed all the time, in the bay may depend on what they are feeding on.DougieK wrote:^ I dont' really agree with any of that other than toss it out and reel it back in.
Aus salmon are a schooling fish and my experience has been that they hit anything shiny you put in front of them.

This morning a bloke got 18 salmon just around the train tracks. Not a whole heap in the afternoon, saw only 3 or 4 salmon all day up to 8pm and a couple dozen small to medium squid mostly caught around the start of the low jetty and on the track side.
