Only found tangles in light braid to be a problem, when gummy fishing my 2 rods have 20 and 30 lb and have had a couple tangles but have both rods out again within 5mins and never had to cut the braid (touch wood)cheaterparts wrote:Brave Man ! Rob - I use Mono on my gummy / WP snapper gear but then I use 3 rods on the yak mix that with one gummy can turn into a very nice platDrifta-X wrote:Braid all the way!!
I have it on all my gear even my gummy gear.
I tend to use cheap braid on my lighter gear ( Whiting in WP and Snapper in PPB )

Re: Fishing line to use
Use braid on all my light gear including squidding outfit. Love it, as the sensitivity and the casting ability is great. Only ever had a single wind knot in several years of use. Trick is to snap the bail closed just as the bait/jig/lure hits the water. Don't let slack line spool off too much.
As for surf gear, I tried braid but it drove me nuts. Tying a shock leader, then feeling every tiny movement of the sinker out in the surf. Nah, I went back to a top quality mono and still prefer that. Surf fishing can be tough on gear.......sand & grit abrasion, and dragging a decent fish ashore through the backwash etc......I like the forgiveness that mono provides. Has that bit of stretch when it counts. If you get a break-off then its simply a case of tying on a new snap swivel and going again. No shock leaders to worry about etc.

i use braid mostly now, even light 5lb braid and to be honest ive never ever tangled the braid...but im more freshwater now a days so its more for snags and sensitivity with lure strikes and such... maybe try braid on one of your reels and see how you like it?
