I'd agree that a rattle and or reflective surface could be effective attractant, whether it's better than a normal squid jigs is up for debate.
The mirrored flash is interesting, I like the science behind it but I can imagine that plastic/cloth discolouring and losing the effectiveness over time. I like the silver foil stickers on the back spine/sides to reflect that downwards overhead light.
Yamashita helped fund a research project looking at auditory potentials in cephalopods back in 2009 which suggested they could detect sound waves under water and potentially were curious about sounds.
Acoustically evoked potentials in two cephalopods inferred using the auditory brainstem response
