3/7/2019 squid session Part2.

Post by Lightningx » Thu Jul 04, 2019 5:34 pm

Hi Guys,
As you all know my mate and I did pretty well with the squid last week getting our bags quite easily.

Yesterday we launched again heading out from st kilda and back to the spot we went to last week.
The wind direction was completely different this time.
Last week it was a NNW wind and yesterday was a very light south to south westerly.
Anyway I wanted to test out the cheap squid jigs I picked up from anaconda last week from the clearance box. They were the Gillies ones and I bought 6 of them in different colours all in the 3.5 size for $4 each.

I usually go for the white straight away but promised the bug I would use the pilchard coloured one so I put that one on and my mate used the white one with the redhead.
We also put one out the back of the boat in the green colour.

Once again it didn’t take long and the squid were hitting the jigs hard. I was off to a flying start compared to my mate who was having a very slow day  since I knew the pillie one was working and wanted to test the other colours, I switched to the white. That caught as well. I switched to the green and that did the job as well.

I told my mate to count how many we had in the kill tank and he said was sure we didn’t need to count but I told him just to make sure. I had a feeling we had more than we thought. He said maybe 11 or 12 but I was fairly sure we had more. Ends up we already had 18! After that he gets one more and I do as well. But while he is using the net to get his I reel mine in right to the boat and it inks, that’s good I think to myself and I go to lift him up and grab him and then he inks me and it goes absolutely everywhere
Lucky I had my sunnies on Or it would have gone inside my eyes! Inks again and all over the drivers seat and dashboard  and I drop the squid... so we are stuck on 19... we tried for another half an hour after that to try get our bag limit of 10 each but wasn’t going to happen so we call it a day and head back to the ramp.

Another great day on the water!!!
