I have edited my post above to add abrasion resistance which is another key benefit of mono and fluorocarbon over braid.

Those doubting how much difference the stretch makes keep in mind mono and fluorocarbon have about 15% stretch and the leader is the first point of give in the system.

Similar to tyres in a car the, whilst the tyres and suspension absorb bumps the short high frequency spikes ie driving over cat eyes or small bumps like resurfacing or expansion joints is almost all absorbed by the tyres.
