Testing the new minn kota ulterra.

Post by purple5ive » Sun Jan 21, 2018 4:31 pm

Gday guys.
Got another chance to go out worth rui once again.
This time to test out the new minn kota ulterra that he just installed on his boat. The motor performed quite well and does what rui wants it to do. So its a win for him. Will need some more testing before i personally can pass judgment on it. But so far so good.
Was only a quick session as one of the guys onboard had to get to work in the afternoon. And to make matters worse the swell was reasonably bad at flinders.
The squid were very quiet and only the smaller ones were committing to the jigs. Flashing and red capcisum doing most of the damage.
I managed to loose a few jigs as usual and landed about 4 squid i think and a cuttle . Can't remember how many we got in the end but didn't bag out.
Ill leave you with a kill shot as we didn't take many pics. But some videoing was done on how to launch solo at flinders (using the minn kota ulterra) So if your friends with rui on facebook check it out if you havent already done it.
Technology like the mk ulterra will.now see quite a few different style of boats able to use trolling motors previously only usable on open console / bass boat type hulls.
Cheers

Was the weather that bad? The clip of the retrieve makes it look sensational. What was the wind strength and direction cos it doesn’t look like it affects the launch at all

I really need to get down there for a session. Shame they were firing.

Perfectly fine where the launching was. But further out wherehe fishes was really lumpy... im not really sure how that works tbh. That boat he has is pretty stable but it was bouncing around quite a bit out there.
All small squid according to his standards

I love my Ulterra; I've only used my anchor once in the last 6 trips and it holds me mid tide in WP channels.

yeah thats great if its holding you in wpb it will hold almost anywhere else, thats a good outcome. anchors will be a thing of the past on small trailer boats going ahead.

I can't see the regs changing anytime soon; I use 75% of my 2 batteries in 6 hours so an anchor for safety seems necessary.

What i meant was you will start to see a lot more trailer boats start to use a trolling motor now instead of dropping anchor everywhere they go.
Id say the other brands will follow suit and release their own version of auto stow and deploy kits.
I don't think doing away with an anchor will be legal anytime soon.
