Squidding Season
Hi all!
Just wondering if there was a specific squidding season in Victoria? Or are they around all year round?
Cheers

They are around all year, but certain times seem to be easier, like around now.wem21 wrote:Hi all!

Also, is there a preferred time of day like dawn or dusk or are they fine with any time?Wolly Bugger wrote:They are around all year, but certain times seem to be easier, like around now.wem21 wrote:Hi all!

Re: Squidding Season
The preferred time is dusk or before sunrise, however I have caught them in the middle of the day landbased off Mount Martha rocks. Basically go whenever you feel like it.wem21 wrote:Also, is there a preferred time of day like dawn or dusk or are they fine with any time?Wolly Bugger wrote:They are around all year, but certain times seem to be easier, like around now.wem21 wrote:Hi all!

Squid move in and out of the bay, plus they move around the bay. For example you can be fishing one spot catching nothing, then all of a sudden get 3 or 4 in a row then it goes quiet again.
You may visit your favourite spot 3 or 4 nights in a row, catching nothing, then all of a sudden you can bag out.
Sure the colour of the jig you are using can be important. Again it comes down to trial and error.

Re: Squidding Season
sometimes are better than other times but just keep a jig in your tackle box and give it ago i bought a new rod awhile back was itching to give it a cast went to brighton expecting nothing water was dirty was facing into the wind so only getting about 10meters with the cast ended up with eight squid in forty minutes

In my experience they become scarce on a full moon.
