Squidding Season

Post by wem21 » Tue Jan 09, 2018 9:19 am

Hi all!
Just wondering if there was a specific squidding season in Victoria? Or are they around all year round?
Cheers

They are around all year, but certain times seem to be easier, like around now.

Also, is there a preferred time of day like dawn or dusk or are they fine with any time?

The preferred time is dusk or before sunrise, however I have caught them in the middle of the day landbased off Mount Martha rocks. Basically go whenever you feel like it.

Squid move in and out of the bay, plus they move around the bay. For example you can be fishing one spot catching nothing, then all of a sudden get 3 or 4 in a row then it goes quiet again.

You may visit your favourite spot 3 or 4 nights in a row, catching nothing, then all of a sudden you can bag out.

Sure the colour of the jig you are using can be important. Again it comes down to trial and error.

sometimes are better than other times but just keep a jig in your tackle box and give it ago i bought a new rod awhile back was itching to give it a cast went to brighton expecting nothing water was dirty was facing into the wind so only getting about 10meters with the cast ended up with eight squid in forty minutes

I heard sunset is good time for most fishing but with a hr drive home and a tight squeeze in the gate i like to be home before dark.
