Had a Fantastic Opportunity to Fish with the One and Only Rui Tang The Man Behind Rui Jigs.. joining us was another one of his mate thats a keen videographer who was doing some videography on the day..
An early morning start seen us arrive at Flinders for some squidding one on one with the Squid whisperer..
Now being a Novice squid fisherman i was a bit nervous fishing alongside someone like Rui, but very quickly he put me at ease and gave me some pointers that was invaluable to the days success.
the day started out quite slow actually with the 3rd person onboard landing a double hookup of arrow squid, yes one was hooked and another was trying to eat the one that was hooked.. This was followed up with a 3rd one by the same guy next cast..
i then landed a tiddler and another followed again which were comparable to mornington sized squid.. but not before loosing a key jig that would prove to be a killer on the day (Rui Jig - The flashing ) rookie mistake of fishing flinders with barbs not trimmed on the bottom..
so i sit down and proceed to trim all bottom barbs of the most likely jigs that would be used on the day..
I then changed to a white sephia and hooked the first aircraft carrier for the day, easily my PB..
Once we found the patch it was then all hands on board, with Multiple double and even a triple hookup, followers were quickly converted to Keepers and organised chaos was the norm after that... i Lost count of how many times i beat my PB, but the fishing was red hot for a few hours, we left them biting after all 3 of us onboard bagged, and we kept getting more, so the smaller models were donated to the nearby boat that only had 2 on board..
standout jig was clearly Rui capsicum and Flashing....
