Re: Squid jigs - Favourite colours
Gold foil jigs seem to work well for me once the sun is up. The thing is though, once I read somewhere that gold jigs worked well during the day I started using them more so who knows if I wouldn't have caught those squid on some other coloured jig?
I use Yamashita ($12-ish from Japan) or Rui ($10 from ebay) jigs because they're cheap and seem to be pretty good quality according to people who know a lot more about it than I do

Rui's jigs are very good for the money, you can buy them on eBay or in Clayton South if you're from around there.
I predominantly use a red or gold foiled jig with a red or orange cloth with some stripes. Size 3 generally works best for where I fish and also gives a good mix of casting range and sinking rate

I'm loving deep jigs at the moment. Yes they snag a bit more but they always get down. I just work them faster to make up for the faster sink.

Interesting, what are some of the brands/models you've found to work well?ducky wrote:I'm loving deep jigs at the moment. Yes they snag a bit more but they always get down. I just work them faster to make up for the faster sink.

Anyone on our boat has always had the most success on white jigs... Whether it cheap $3 dollar ones or more expensive.

I think foil colour makes a big impact.
I like White, Red, Orange, Purple and a muddy brown with some greens.
White and Bright red in gold foil are my go to.

The first 3 jigs I use are yamashita in a reddy brown colour (prawn) goldy brown (kgw) and white if I get no takers on them I work through my boxes to find one they like
