Perfect day for Calamari!
Good Day Gents,
I haven't posted for a while and haven't been out much recently due to being extremely busy with work, and not have much holidays over the Christmas break. Although I did manage to head out last Saturday night with the old man and a family friend. We headed down to our usual spot leaving home at about 1.30am and arrived at 4am. It doesn't take 3.5 hours to get to where we were going but after stopping for some food petrol etc and a chat it all adds up.
We decided to head into the water around 5am after sitting in the car for a bit waiting for the tides to kick. Whilst sitting there we saw the boats rolling in and thought, lets get a move on. We got to our first spot on the water drifting for Calamari and with the first cast BANG i am on. It was pulling pretty aggressively and i thought to myself this is going to be a ripper calamari but instead i pull in an arrow squid, so back it goes. I have tried to eat arrow squid but they just don't do it for me.
We then drifted around all day travelling from Spot A to Spot B and managed to get our bag limit (30 between three people) by 12.30pm. We managed to get onto some Thumpers and some smaller guys, but all perfect for a feed!

I don't mind arrow head squid but they are harder to clean over southern calamari getting your bag ripper

Re: Perfect day for Calamari!
The aero price at the Victoria market compared to calamari may give you some indication of the taste, aero sell for $6.50 to $8 a kilo, calamari on the other hand is approximately triple that. All "calamari" rings sold by the kilo is most always aero squid.
