Rocks next to mornington pier

Post by bigwatkins » Mon Dec 16, 2013 7:16 pm

Hi all, im lucky enough that i have a qoute to do in mount eliza on wednesday afternoon so i thought i would stick the rods in and head to mornington pier after it. When i was fishing there a few weeks ago in a boat i seen people fishing off the rocks next to the pier. Im just wondering is it easy access down onto them?
How do i get onto them? Thanks

I fished there for a cpl of hrs yesterday(mon 16) and it was dead as the proverbial door nail! Maybe it was the timing as we arrived at around 3pm which was the ebb tide. Had 3 floats out at various depths and 2 unweighted baits floated down into our burley trail with not a single bite in 3hrs. We both jigged for suquid with no success. I did see one occy caught on a jig, pretty sure that was the only thing landed the whole time we were there.

I got 2 squid from the pier and 6 from the rocks 2 weeks ago, maybe im loosing my touch haha. I spoke with pier local, 'Christos' and he said it was has been quiet for awhile now. He did mention that the previous night there were quite a few slimy mackeral around.

I spoke with some locals and they reckon the pier reconstruction is going to begin in jan and be finished by dec next year...

Got down to mornington and had a line in the water by 11am, fished until 1:30 with out a touch. I was fishing of the concrete wall just past the rocks. I seen a young guy in the corner fishing towards the shore catch a few little fish but that was it.

Turned out my mrs had the day off and i didnt know she was down at dromana at the dog beach with my lab. I headed down there for some lunch the. Decided all this bait wasnt going to waste.

I was on rye pier at 4on the dot. Fished until 6:45, i got 3 flattys 1 undersized and two big banjos (the carp of the sea) . Everyone else was jigging for squid to no success.

Not a great days fishing but it was a great day in the sun

I tried those rocks not too long ago, lost 2 salmon lures in 3 casts and gave up and cruised down to gunnamatta instead.
