Bit further down the road mate. Hearns rd/Ian’s rd area. Have also caught plenty straight off the beach from safety beach :)
Between Ians and Hearn rd is there any other spots thats easy to walk down like Hearn Rd spot?
i think i tried a couple other spots years ago when we used to fish Martha a bit and they were all steep.
thanks

Took advantage of the oddly warm weather to pop down to the rocks near hearn rd. Unfortunately tide timings weren't the best - got there around noon and it was pretty low. Threw some squid jigs and bait around with no luck - spearos came out and said that we'd just missed a massive school of salmon that were hanging about.

Went further down the road to try our luck, ended up snorkelling with a seal instead, saw a few small schools of tommy rough around.

Gave up on the rocks and went to mornington pier - plenty of small pinkies around still, someone off the end managed a pan sized fish but I saw no other fish that could be kept. Switched to squid jigs in a size 2 with a little sinker, managed 5 squid on the ocean facing side of the pier. Few other people alongside did pretty well too - I'd say at least 25 squid between about 5 of us. Some of reasonable size, the others were just the usual mornington small fry.

Hoping the sun stays out for the rest of the month for more fishing weekends - looking to give flinders or sorrento another go soon.
Nice effort

Nice bag of squid mate.
No one catching gars or kgw off the small pier on the side?
Nah - not that I could see. Wind was blowing.... easterly(?) so into the bay, making it a little tougher to fish on the other end. Wind was really picking up when I left at around 8PM as well, but that's when the usual egi crowd turns up which made it a prime time to exit.

Have never seen anyone pull up a KGW at mornington, would love to grab my first KGW at some point! Would love any pointers on where I could find some landbased. I've seen a small school of them (4-5) at Sorrento just the one time.
Try Anthony's nose Dromana a mate got a few there one night last week..
Interesting... Just did a quick Google satellite check and it seems kind of bare except for two weed patches. Are you just walking along the shore and casting to those, or wading out?
Those little patches of weed don't look like much but it's the only structure on an otherwise featureless stretch of beach, so it collects a lot of fish who swim around looking for a reason to stop somewhere.

Good point, will keep that in mind if I'm in Dromana!

Not that I'm aware of - I think Hearn is the easiest path by far. Ian Road isn't too bad either, but the ones between tend to be quite sandy and therefore slippery. I always end up walking down with one hand free, even if it means having to leave the tacklebox halfway down. Better than cracking open the head like an egg!
