We're Going to Need a Bigger Net Dad!!!

Post by purple5ive » Sat Mar 25, 2017 11:56 pm

Went Out with the Old man Again This evening .
Launched At Mornington and this time i decided to Head out to some deeper Water.
On the way there we Came across a massive Pod of Dolphins, i Could almost Lean over and Touch them They were that close to the boat. i Deployed the trolling motor and hung around there for a bit just watching them. They Moved on after about 5 mins and we continued on to some deeper water.

Got to The spot and had started to cast out some Plastics, about 15min or so in i feel a Massive Tug on my Line, and the Luvias starts screeaaming :o_0:
Fish went for a couple of Massive runs and i Looked at the reel and i could see were onto mono backing loll. since iwas running 6lb Leader i Couldnt Put too mcuh Hurt on the fish, but somehow i managed to turn it and gain line. a short while after This beauty Pops up,

My PB Big Red on Plastics. Dad struggled to Net It, and with the Pissy little net we had it almost overhung By half the Fish loll

some happy snaps later im casting again, and i feel a Distinct Take from a snapper, Set the Hooks and First Run wasnt as Big, But then The fish woke up and Peeled Line off, 2nd run and 3rd run back to back, damn im on backing already, tighten drag a bit more and gain some line, 4th run backing again and fish isnt stopping, palmed the spool and game over   shattered this fish was even bigger and felt heavier...

i switched over to my Emeraldas reel i had in the boat and casted again, but no more snapper.
Gave up and went shallower water to chase some pinkies, few cats into it, i hook something thats fighting weirdly, and up comes this guy.

My first Arrow and whats a way to catch it, on a Plastic lol. while i was trying to get it in the net i had another one trying to attack the one that was hooked, threw a squid jig down but it didnt want it.

ended the day with dad catching about 4 flathead and we called it a day.

That's a ripper fish . the arrow squid are very aggressive and can turn their heads 180degree and bite you. I caught some off Barwon heads on a 60gram jig I put squid jigs out but they preferred the bronze coloured jig funny what they like.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the comments
Nudeup yeah im aware of that. So i knocked him on the head first and then made an attempt to take my lure out.

I am.still spewing about the one that got away though. Could have easily been a better fish from all.accounts it gave me.

I would like to say 70cm lol but only measured 69.
Not sure how heavy though.
What would a fish like this weigh?
