I hooked two of them but quite honestly have cast a fly rod once before and that was just ******* around at tongue point one day. The spot we fish is elevated and really not that hard to hook up on. Reckon I could probably get it right next go.ducky wrote:Nah it's cool as all hell as a novelty. Cut down a whiting spike and use some lead tape/feather to make a genuine squid fly. Would be pretty sweet to nail one.

Re: Good couple of days!
Nice work guys
A few guys on another forum target them a bit, and others have got them as bycatch. Some use jointed flies with a crown at the back but the most common seems to be small shrimp imitations with 3 barbless single hooks setup in a similar fashion to a treble.DougieK wrote:I hooked two of them but quite honestly have cast a fly rod once before and that was just ******* around at tongue point one day. Re: Good couple of days!
I hope you got some strange looks when you chucked the squid jig on the fly rod.
Let us know how you go tomorrow.

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Re: Good couple of days!
Now what sort of fly do you use for squid? Think the salmon on the fly would be more fun though.
Cast, catch and put it back
